| A rare Pink Diamond! |
It is true that a female’s best friends are diamonds! A rare pink diamond could set a world record next week in a revived international market chasing strong prices for top quality jewels. This stone is rare and stands out. On November 16 in Geneva, it is reported to be auctioned, with the estimated price range of $27-38 million.
The shape is in the form of rectangular pink diamond, bought from an American jeweler Harry Winston 60 years ago by the current anonymous owner, and has top grading for purity and color. Set between small white diamonds on a platinum ring, it weighs 24.78 carats, about the size of a pinball or a large marble. The largest pink diamond in the world is the Darya-i-Nur or Sea of Light at 175 carats. The discovery of the light pink diamond dates back to 1642 and was part of the crown jewels of India until 1739, when it was taken by the invading Persian army and carried to Iran where it remains today. So far, the world's most expensive jewel ever sold at an auction is the "Wittelsbach" blue diamond; a 17th-century stone of 35.56 carats that fetched $24.3 million in December 2008 at Christie's.Christie's auctioned off a 5-carat pink diamond in December last year for almost $10.8 million, the highest recorded price per carat for a diamond ever!
The modern celebrity world first took notice of the stunning beauty of pink diamonds when US singer Jennifer Lopez wore a 6 carat one on her engagement ring. Other celebrities, who have succumbed to the charms of the pink stone, include Victoria and David Beckham, Helena Christiansen, Cilla Black, Salma Hayek and Britney Spears. So all the pink lovers out there, would be dying to have this diamond in there jeweler collection!
